  • In most cases, the maintenance of public sidewalks is the responsibility of the owner on whose property the sidewalk exists. In certain cases, the City does replace public sidewalks, but such maintenance is typically completed in conjunction with a City-funded street maintenance project. The City does, however, offer a Public Sidewalk Replacement Program that pays $12 per square foot toward the replacement of qualifying sidewalks.

  • The City evaluates streets annually and prioritizes which streets and alleys will be reconstructed based on the condition of the street and how much time and money is required to maintain the street in its current condition. Those streets that are in major disrepair and that require frequent repair are at the top of the list for the upcoming year's street maintenance project. The list is fluid and changes frequently depending on the severity of the winter months. The City's street maintenance project is approved by the City Council in early spring and work typically begins in May. If you have questions regarding your street or would like to report a safety concern, please contact the Public Works Department.
