For cycling enthusiasts, there’s the Great Western Nature Trail. It begins just east of Sycamore and ends in St. Charles, 18 miles to the east.

Nearby Russell Woods Forest Preserve offers picnic sites and hiking trails. Its day camp program for youngsters runs from mid-June through early August and features a variety of nature studies.

Sycamore is a short driving distance from Shabbona Lake State Park, located in DeKalb County near the town of Shabbona. The 1,546-acre state park offers fishing, boating, hiking, hunting, picnicking, and camping and is handicapped accessible for most activities.
