Joiner History Room

PHYLLIS KELLEY, COUNTY HISTORIAN
103 E STATE STREET (LIBRARY)               815-895-7271
SYCAMORE ILLINOIS 60178
The Joiner History Room is a cooperative effort of the DeKalb County Board,           County Judiciary, County Clerk’s office, County Central Plant, County Sesquicentennial Committee, County Historical & Genealogical Society and DeKalb County citizens concerned with safeguarding their heritage as represented by the historical documents in the collection. The Joiner History Room is not a museum, but an archive for researchers. Our historical materials date back to the hand written minutes of the first session of the county commissioners in 1837. As there has never been a fire to destroy any of the county’s valuable historical files, they have been meticulously preserved to meet the needs of today’s and tomorrow’s researchers. The collection includes among other things civil war papers, newspaper files and numerous boxes of manuscript materials. If you should require information regarding one of the townships, the involvement of DeKalb County’s sons in the civil war, tax assessments over the years, or other information, the joiner history room is much needed repository for historians. The room is open to the public and records are available for inspection on Thursdays from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Researchers are welcome.

The USGen Web Project sponsors a web site on DeKalb County for genealogical and historical researches. The address is: http://www.rootsweb.com/~ildekalb/.
